Red Lake Gold District Claim Map
The Red Lake District is a well known mining area which has seen its initial gold rush almost 100 years ago when two brothers, Lorne and Ray Howey found gold under the roots of an upturned tree (1925). This event lead to the founding of the town Red Lake and thousands of people converging in the area by foot, canoes and eventually by plane, commercialising bush planes in Canada. In 1936 Howe Bay in the heart of Red Lake was the busiest airport in the world. Until today nearly 30 million ounces have been mined in the area. Some further details on the history can be found here.
